Free as a bird
Just recently I had the delight of experiencing Artist, Athena Jane Churchill’s, site specific installation
‘Free as a Bird’
The site it was set in was beautiful Framfield Grange, the home of Kathy Gore.
And it was pure delight – colourful exquisite sparkly glittery birds of so many different hues and character.
All individual and unique
To be so
How can we all be as free as a bird?
I ran an ultra race in Copenhagen once, it was to celebrate that I had trod this earth plane for fifty years – during the race I said this passage from the bible over and over – quietly inside my head…
‘They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary…’
And as I said these words – over and over – I felt my wings soaring, and when I felt my steps start to flag – I knew that that I could continue to run and not grow weary..
I knew that I was as free – that however weak the flesh felt, the spirit was free – and always soaring.
Like a bird, soaring like the eagles, who delight in swooping and soaring with the wind for the pure joy of it…
Another memory… It was day two of an adventure that I was on – to journey from the north coast to the south coast of Spain with no shoes on – and Josie who was running with me that day, and I, ran up a hill for three hours long – while below us circled swooped and soared the eagles; and we ran and did not grow weary
The energy within us infinite
Rising from an infinite source
We infinite beings can always receive from this infinite source in infinite ways
And so we are free
We are already free and we have all we need
I grew up with the bible as my inspirational reading material (which may be evident due to me choosing a line from it as my Ultra race mantra!)
I remember loving this passage…
‘Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they’?
As I walked round Jane’s exhibition I thought of these things.
The words that speak of what is always there.
Freedom to be, to trust the flow, to ‘ask and ye shall receive…’
It is so.
There is much written now about the now, presence – being present.
This is a good thing because
It is so…
It is all that is required, for when we experience presence all flows from this.
When we are, then we do and then we have – it all flows this way.
Often we can get stuck the other way round… Thinking that to get things, we must do certain things, and that then we can be free and happy…
But if we become still and turn it around
We know we are free,
As a bird,
And that we have the key in our pocket to the door of our cage…
